Aggregate Moisture Correction Calculator
Convert an SSD aggregate quantity into wet batch mass and adjust mixing water using measured total moisture and absorption.
Moisture inputs
SSD basis matters
This tool assumes the mix quantity is specified at saturated surface-dry condition. Apply the calculation separately to sand and each coarse aggregate fraction.
Formula and checks
Measured moisture above absorption contributes free water; moisture below absorption creates a water demand.
Oven-dry mass = SSD ÷ (1 + absorption)
Wet batch mass = oven-dry × (1 + total moisture)
Water correction = oven-dry × (moisture − absorption)
Wet batch mass = oven-dry × (1 + total moisture)
Water correction = oven-dry × (moisture − absorption)
- Use a representative moisture test taken close to batching time.
- Do not mix wet-basis and dry-basis moisture definitions.
- Recheck the correction when stockpile condition changes.
