Superplasticizer Dosage in Concrete

Superplasticizer dosage cannot be selected reliably from one universal number.

Start from the product document, then use controlled trial mixes with the actual cement and aggregates.

Define both sides of the percentage

Write every dosage as a complete statement: mass of supplied product / mass of the specified cement or binder × 100. If the product document gives a solids-based dose, label that separately. Define whether “binder” includes supplementary cementitious materials.

Total solids and active polymer are not automatically identical. Do not call measured total solids “active PCE” without product-specific support.

Worked arithmetic example — not a recommended dose

If a hypothetical trial uses 400 kg of total binder and a specified supplied-product dose of 0.50% of that binder, the product mass is 2.00 kg. If its declared solids content is 40%, the solids mass is 0.80 kg, or 0.20% of binder. The remainder is 1.20 kg; count it as water only when the product composition supports that assumption.
