PCE Powder vs. Liquid: Choosing the Delivery Form

Choose powder, liquid or flake to fit your handling and formulation route. Compare concentration and the qualified dose separately: delivery form alone does not establish equivalent performance or a lower total cost.

Equal product mass is not equal solids mass

Illustrative arithmetic, not product data: 2 kg of a product declared at 40% solids contains 0.80 kg declared solids. A hypothetical 95% solids product would supply that same solids mass at 0.80 ÷ 0.95 = approximately 0.842 kg.

This matches only the declared solids quantity. It does not show equal active-polymer content or equal concrete performance. Record the solids test basis and compare each grade in the actual formulation.

Cost per kg declared solids = delivered price per kg product ÷ declared solids fraction

This screening calculation excludes differences in polymer efficiency, handling and preparation. For purchasing, compare the full cost at each grade’s qualified production dose.

Build a comparable request for quotation

  1. Name the final application: concrete batching, dry mortar or downstream formulation.
  2. Specify the delivery form and requested grade, without assuming an identical grade exists in each form.
  3. Ask for current concentration, density where relevant, test methods and batch evidence.
  4. List the preparation and storage capability available at your plant.
  5. Compare quotations on the same net-mass, destination, packaging and delivery basis.

Questions buyers ask

Is powder always cheaper to import?

No. Freight, concentration, packaging, handling, preparation cost and the qualified dose all matter. Compare current delivered quotations rather than assume a universal saving.

Can I replace liquid PCE with dissolved powder?

Only after the proposed grade, preparation route and final solution have been qualified. Matching a solids percentage is not proof that the original liquid formulation has been reproduced.

Is flake the same as powder?

They are different delivery forms. Confirm handling, preparation and grade identity independently; neither label supplies a complete specification.

Which is best for ready-mix?

Liquid is a starting route for pumpable dosing. The appropriate commercial grade still depends on the plant process and the concrete trial, as described on the liquid product page.
